While you might here this statement and immediately think of close friends sharing a warm cup of coffee after a long day, the truth is this is not the only type of community to which we at Un Mundo want to foster. It is true that sharing a cup of coffee is one of the fall or winter’s most pleasant activities, but that is only one level of the community that we wish to make available to Springfield.
Coffee brings to our local community the efforts, flavors, and rhythms of the region in which it originates. Each coffee has subtle notes of the soil in which it is planted and is the product of families and farmers in country in which it is grown. Coffee is a crop and not only a commodity. It is a crop that has the sweat and pride in it ( we know … try not to think of sweat in your next cup….) of those who work daily to produce it. We at Un Mundo want to remind our city that we are just one in many cities with micro economies and industry. For this reason we cary coffee from four continents and many regions.
The next time you sit down with a friend and talk of the day over coffee think about the silent people who are present with you, represented by what you hold in your hand.
